Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS) is the official association for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Pakistan since 1994. PAOMS is a registered charitable association working in public interest for the uplift of speciality dealing with diseases of mouth, face, jaws and neck. It aims to prevent oral diseases through public awareness, advance the scientific basis of OMFS and provide a platform for gathering and sharing of data and experiences through conferences and meetings.
PAOMS got affiliated with the International Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) in 2003. IAOMS is a parent organization having its branches worldwide. PAOMS has a multi-faceted role as an advisory body. The common issues being faced are, the recognition of the specialty as a distinct branch of dentistry and medicine by the health providers and the public at large, prescribing and advising on the training requirements and qualifications of an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, increasing public awareness on common diseases of the mouth, jaws and the face, their prevention, and protecting the working interests of the OMF Surgeons. In 2017, Karachi has been selected to host the international maxillofacial community as they come to participate in the PCOMS International Conference.
